MONICA KREK lived in Boston, Seattle and Naples, Florida and is currently attending the University of Miami as a freshman Music Business Major. Music and writing are the two most important things in her life. Her love of writing has kept her dedicated to her longtime hobby as she sits in her dorm room in the wee hours of the morning, fleshing out her characters. She has been playing the violin for over fourteen years and is a member of the University of Miami’s Orchestra. Monica is currently working on her second book and hopes to write many more in the future.

RECIPIENTS ANNOUNCED
Annual scholarship program supports young musicians
Philharmonic Center founder and CEO Myra Janco Daniels today announced the winners of the 2010 Joyce Anne Vitelli Scholarships. The winners are Monica Krek and Daniel Rosman, both graduating seniors and members of the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra.
The scholarship program was established in 2007 by an anonymous donor in honor of Joyce Anne Vitelli, a music teacher and friend of the Philharmonic Center, who worked with the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra. Vitelli scholarships, which are $5,500 each, require applicants to write an essay and participate in an interview process. The monetary awards are applied toward the winners’ college expenses, such as tuition and room and board.
Monica Krek, principal second violin with the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, will attend the University of Miami in the fall, majoring in music business. Daniel Rosman, principal clarinet with the Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, will attend Florida State University in the fall, majoring in music education and performance.
